Benjamin Hoffman (22) grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where he fell in love with mountaineering at the age of fifteen. While studying math and philosophy in Portland, OR, he discovered whitewater kayaking. He focuses on exploring highly remote places, which he has done in British Columbia, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Mongolia. Iceland Northbound represents the synthesis of these three pursuits: mountaineering, water travel, and remote exploration. After Iceland Northbound he will begin working on a PhD in pure mathematics.
